JEYPORE: The judicial works have been hit in Jeypore sub-division in the absence of a regular sub-collector for over a month. Nearly five lakh people inhabit five blocks of the sub-division. With the sub- collector transferred to neighbouring Nabarangpur four months back and his reliever yet to join duty, several legal files are lying unattended to in the office, sources said. The former sub- collector continued to work till last month despite his transfer. What has worsened matters is that the in charge sub-collector has not been given magisterial powers. He is also burdened with the Jeypore executive officer post. Everyday around 200 litigants depend on the court room of Jeypore sub-collector’s office but return empty handed. The public representatives and tribal heads of Jeypore sub-division demanded posting of a regular sub-collector in Jeypore to resume all office works.
