New Delhi: The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have not received any official word on increase in quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) proposed by Ministry of Human Resource Development.

This was announced after the IIM directors met at Ahmedabad.

In the meeting, it was also decided that the Common Admission Test (CAT) centre will be shifted from IIM-Ahmedabad to IIM-Bangalore.

The directors of the six IIMs also discussed other issues like the proposed salary hike for IIM professors and the recently-implemented fee hike.

The proposed move of the HRD Ministry to hike the quota premier institutions like IITs and IIMs has drawn flak from faculty members who feel such reservations would "adversely affect the qualilty" of the institutes.

Meanwhile, the last word is yet to be said on the reservation controversy raked up by Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh.

The ball now rests with the Election Commission after Singh, on Sunday, denied charges of violating the model code of conduct

The Election Commission had issued a show cause notice to the minister for announcing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in institutes of higher learning while polls were on in five states and a union territory.

But Singh claims he hasn't said anything in the matter that isn't already in the public domain.

In his reply to the Commission's communication which sought his comments on the reported move as the election process is on in five states, Singh said "there was no announcement of any concession much less any other breach of the model code of conduct...There is no basis even for a prima facie view to that effect".

Arjun Singh further says the Commission has acted on the basis of media reports.

In his reply, the HRD minister says Article 15(5) of the Constitution, which came into force on 20th January already talks about increasing reservations for the backward classes.
