Not possible to curb cell phone use in jail: cop
The Jodhpur Central Jail DG said it was difficult to completely do away with the practice.

Jodhpur: A top Rajasthan police official on Tuesday said it was not possible to put an end to use of mobile phones in prisons, but efforts were on to rope in service providers to curb their use by inmates.

Reviewing the security arrangement in Jodhpur Central Jail in Jodhpur, Director General (Jail) Omendra Bhardwaj said curbing use of mobile phones in prisons remained a daunting task for officials and "it is difficult to completely do away with the practice".

"It is difficult to declare that a jail is completely free of mobile phone use by criminals. Searches will continue on and off and mobile phones will continue to be recovered in the process," Bhardwaj said.

"However, we are seriously considering roping in service providers to equip us with the technical know-how to limit the use of mobile phones in jails," he added.

On modernisation of prisons, the official said talks were on to redesign jails in the state.
