HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court comprising chief justice Madan B. Lokur and justice PV Sanjay Kumar has issued notices to the state government and the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) on a PIL against the decision to increase the water tariff. Forum for Good Governance secretary M Padmanabha Reddy filed the PIL contending that the board's decision was against Article 21 of the Constitution. Before the tariff revision, representations had been made to the municipal administration minister and the water board managing director but there was no response, he said. The petitioner informed the court that the government owed ` 172 crore to the board and the latter was entitled to 25 per cent of the property tax collected by the GHMC but the share of the money was not being credited to the board. Besides, he said, the board had to recover ` 300 crore dues from commercial establishments.
