KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday said that the government had decided to issue ration cards on the same day of filing application."The government is trying to bring in more transparency in its functioning. The people should benefit from the reforms conceived as part of the government's 100-day programme. Over 3 lakh ration card applications are pending before the government. Once they are cleared, ration cards will be issued on the same day of filing applications," Chandy said.He was inaugurating the 'Corruption-Free Kerala' programme organised by the Anti-Corruption People's Movement here. Admitting that corruption has increased rapidly in the last few years, Chandy said the government had decided to bring in transparency to contain corruption."We want a strict law to check corruption. But, only transparency in governance will help reduce corruption in society," he said and added that the fight against corruption should be a movement of the people who strongly believe in democracy.On the occasion, Anti-Corruption People's Movement chairman P C Cyriac handed over a charter of demands to curb corruption, to the Chief Minister.Cyriac said they would open a corruption complaints cell which would provide legal assistance to the victims of corruption."The cell will also expose the corrupt officials," he added.The function was attended by Excise Minister K Babu, Mayor Tony Chammany, Hibi Eden MLA, Prof M K Sanu and AntiCorruption People's Movement vicechairman M R Rajendran Nair.
