New Delhi: Hours after the last Democratic vote was cast on Super Tuesday, Hillary Clinton sounded an upbeat note to ranks of cheering supporters in New York.

"After seven years of a president who listens only to the special interests, you are ready for a president who brings your voice, your values, and your dreams to your White House," Hillary announced.

The verdict, however, was pretty clear – it was a draw.

“There's one thing that we do not need – the final result. Our time has come,” said Barack Obama.

Both sides have claimed victory but Barack Obama appeared to have the edge.

Preliminary exit polls of voters showed Obama encroaching on Hillary's voting base. She had only a slight edge among women and whites, while Obama is leading among the men including white men.

While Hillary’s support base among Hispanics is strong, the road ahead for Obama looks favourable.

Both are now expected to redouble their efforts in March and April when the next round of balloting in three big states – Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania – kicks off.
