Washington: US President Barack Obama will meet his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai on Tuesday during which the two leaders would be discussing the transition process, a presidential aide has said.
"This is the first meeting the President will have with Karzai since we rolled out our plan for a transition, so they'll discuss the transition to the Afghan security forces and the Afghan government," said Ben Rhodes the Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications.
"He'll also discuss the negotiations surrounding the strategic partnership declaration between the US and Afghanistan and our alignment on the political process in Afghanistan as we head to some important conferences later this year in Istanbul and Bonn," Rhodes told reporters while travelling with the US President on his way to New York.
Obama reached New York on Monday evening to attend the 66th annual session of the UN General Assembly. He is scheduled to address the General Assembly on
Wednesday.
During his stay in New York, Obama will meet world leaders including heads of states for nearly 10 countries.
