Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Friday shifted a top official over the clashes near the Posco site in which one person was killed.

Priyabrat Patnaik was transferred from the post of chairman-cum-managing director of the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), state chief secretary BK Patnaik told reporters.

He has been posted as additional chief secretary, pension and public grievances department. Pradeep Jena, secretary in Panchayati Raj department, has been given additional charge of IDCO CMD, the chief secretary said.

The government move came after leaders of different political parties questioned the role of the IDCO CMD in the construction of the road near the Posco site in Jagatsinghpur district.

The region witnessed clashes on Wednesday after hundreds of villagers opposed to Posco's $12 billion project in the area and did not allow workers to carry out the road construction works.
