KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the fifth season of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF), which is set to begin on December 1, at the Kochi Marine Drive.The State Government has announced that the GKSF is aimed at making Kerala’s tourism sector an international industrial centre. The inaugural function will be attended by Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, ministers A P Anil Kumar, P K Kunhalikutty and K V Thomas, celebrities like Mamootty and Jayaram, along with GKSF sponsors and representatives of merchants and retailers. The inauguration ceremony will be followed by cultural events including a fire show by a Czech artist, programmes by movie stars and a performance by Leslie Lewis’s band. There are three categories to register in the shopping festival: gold partner (Rs 25,000), silver partner (Rs 5,000) and general category. 101 kilos of gold will be given away in prizes. The mega prize will be one kilo gold for one person and second prize will be half a kilo gold each for three.
