HYDERABAD: A person from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh allegedly involved in robbing 75 tola gold from a widow was arrested by police on Thursday and 25 tola gold recovered from him. Police said Amjad, a painter from Uttar Pradesh, had been hired by a 77-year-old widow Jeevakireetam for repainting her house at Innovation Apartments in June. Using the pretext of coming to paint the house, Amjad and his associates entered the house and threatened to kill Jeevakireetam by showing a knife. Later, she was gagged and her hands and legs tied using a saree. “Amjad and other accused opened the almirah and stole 75 tola gold. Before fleeing from the location Jeevakireetam was locked inside the bedroom,” deputy commissioner of police (Central Zone) Akun Sabharwal said. Investigating officials recovered a photograph a photograph of Amjad from a relative and it was put up at all bus and railway stations. “Based on information given by some people, we came to know that Amjad hails from Raebareli and resided at PG road in Secunderabad. Amjad was nabbed from his house and 25 tola stolen gold, one diamond bangle, five necklaces, six gold chains and four gold rings recovered,” Akun Sabharwal said. Police said efforts are being made to nab the remaining accused.
