BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has brought down a portion of the South City apartments on Bannerghatta Road.
BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah had noted the encroachments while carrying out an intensive cleaning programme on Bannerghatta Road. The apartment had encroached upon the Storm Water Drain (SWD) area. Siddaiah had asked officials to issue a notice to the concerned authorities, as this led to flooding and impeded the flow of sewage and rain water. Joint Commissioner (Bommanahalli) supervised the operations, where the compound wall of the apartment was demolished by the Palike. They cited that the wall had become a major hurdle for pedestrian movement in the area as well. These action, reasserted the intent of Siddaiah, who had stated that any encroachment would be mercilessly removed. Seven JCBs were used to demolish the wall, at around 10 am on Thursday morning. Several police personnel were present during the incident. The Palike's decision to demolish the Mantri Mall in Malleshwaram, had led to an debate between the Consortium of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) and the Palike.
