Panvel shelter home founder gets death in rape-murder case
The incident related to the rape and murder of mentally challenged minor girls at Kalyani Mahila Bal Seva Sanstha, a Panvel-based orphanage.

Panvel: Ramchandra Karanjule, who founded a woman and child shelter home in Panvel, has been sentenced to death by the Mumbai sessions court for raping and killing mentally challenged girls. Five others, who helped Karanjule in carrying out the heinous crime, have also been convicted in the case with two of them getting life terms. The incident related to the rape and murder of mentally challenged minor girls at Kalyani Mahila Bal Seva Sanstha, a Panvel-based orphanage.

Karanjule was the founder and caretaker of the Kalyani Mahila Bal Seva Sanstha and had been convicted of raping and physically abusing five girls along with his friends for more than four years. One of the victims had later died due to the abuse. The matter had came in light in 2010 and the police had booked 9 people, four of were let off due to lack of evidence.

While Karanjule has been sent to the gallows, two other convicts - Deepak and Prakash - have been sentenced to life. The other convicts are Nana Karanjule, Sonali and Parvati Mawle. Nana Karanjule has got two years in jail, Sonali five years and Parvati Mawle will spend 10 years in jail.
