THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The passing out parade of the class XII cadets of Sainik School, Kazhakkoottam, was held on Saturday at the School Parade Ground. Forty-eight cadets of the outgoing batch passed out of the portals of their alma-mater after seven years of training at the school. Air Marshal J Chauhan, Senior Air Staff Officer, HQ Southern Air Command, took the salute and reviewed the parade. Eight contingents, including one passing-out contingent, constituted the parade formation. The School Cadet Captain Shashank Shekhar Sharma commanded the parade and the School Cadet Adjutant Jeeth Jacob Thomas was the parade second in command. While addressing the gathering, Air Marshal Chauhan called upon the cadets to be the torchbearers of the society. He exhorted them to take up the challenges that the country is facing today. The school band accompanied the march past and added melody and colour to the ceremonial parade. Trophies for the outstanding cadets who excelled in various fields were also awarded by the chief guest. The coveted trophy for the Best All Round Cadet was awarded to School Captain Shashank Shekhar Sharma. The trophy for the most promising cadet was awarded to School Cadet Adjutant Jeeth Jacob Thomas. House Captain Arun Jayan was awarded the trophy for the most exemplary cadet. Cadet Akhil Raj was awarded the trophy for the Best Sportsman of the year. A large number of invitees, parents, Old Boys and students from other schools witnessed the colourful parade. School principal Group Captain B Janardhanan proposed the vote of thanks. The 50th Annual Day function of the School was also held in the School Auditorium this evening followed by cultural programmes. Shoba Koshy, Chief Post Master General (Kerala), was chief guest at the function.
