HYDERABAD: There has been a significant fall in number of admissions at the emergency ward in Gandhi Hospital, with the junior doctors deciding to boycott emergency duties from February 10. According to sources, the emergency ward receives around 250 admissions per day but the number declined to 73 between Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. The hospital wore a deserted look on Sunday with it being a holiday for the outpatient ward staff. There was no change in momentum of admissions until Saturday morning. But as people got wind of the junior doctors decision, they started moving patients admitted in Gandhi hospital to private hospitals. It was a similar story in teaching hospitals across the state, with patient admissions declining considerably.A Junior Doctors’ Association member of Osmania Medical College said that the number of patients coming to the casualty ward at the hospital has declined by 70 percent. A watchman at the Gandhi Hospital said that the hospital is in a state of confusion.“Though the state government has appointed a few senior doctors, they don’t have proper knowledge about the hospital which led to confusion,” he said.An attendant of a patient admitted at the Acute Medical Care ward said that they are planning to shift the latter to a private hospital, as the authorities are not providing proper treatment. However, duty doctors said there is no scarcity of doctors as the state government has deputed them there to face the situation.
