HYDERABAD: The Milad-un- Nabi celebrations passed off peacefully in the city barring a couple of incidents - one in the Old City and the other at Amberpet, where people belonging to different communities had heated arguments leading to tension in the localities. However, police prevented flare up of communal trouble. Though the main procession from the historic Mecca Masjid to Moghulpura Grounds passed off peacefully by 3.45 p.m, some others took out processions in their localities.Youngsters waving religious flags went around the city raising slogans till night and police bandobust was intensified in sensitive areas to prevent any flare up.Around 7.30 p.m, a procession which started from Syed Ali Chabutra to Moghulpura reached the Nagulchinta area and as the processionists raised slogans at a high pitch, the locals objected which ended in a heated argument.Reports said the processionists tried to erect religious flags in a junction when trouble broke out.“Our men were already posted in the locality and they dispersed the two groups and the situation was brought under control,’’ South Zone DCP Manish Kumar Sinha said.Business establishments in the nearby localities downed shutters immediately anticipating trouble.Police said patrolling would be put in place in the Old City in the night. In the afternoon, mild tension prevailed at Amberpet when people belonging to a particular community took out a rally and tried to erect religious flags in a disputed land. The incident took place in a locality bordering the city and Cyberabad police station limits. However, police prevented trouble.Around 2 p.m, a group of nearly 200 people from Patel Nagar took out a rally on twowheelers, as part of the Miladun- Nabi celebrations and as they reached a 177-square yard government land in Venkat Reddy Nagar, they tried to pitch flags in the land.As there was dispute over the land between two communities, additional forces were deployed to prevent any trouble.Meanwhile, people belonging to other community also reached there and the two groups had a heated argument.Sensing trouble, police dispersed the two groups and a picket was posted in the locality.
