The trouble started when police initiated action against the mukhiya (chief) of Raghunathpur panchayat Devyanti Devi, her son Deep and Kaushar panchayat head Narmedehswar Singh, following complaints that they were not distributing food grains under 'Antodaya' scheme.

Over 12 people were injured in stone pelting and subsequent lathicharge by the police. The Superintendent of Police, Sunil Kumar and SDPO, Sudhir Kumar were camping at the site.

The Raghunathpur police had gone to Karsar village day before on Friday to arrest Devyanti Devi and others but they had to return following stiff resistance by the villagers.
