BALASORE: It was double delight for Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Indian Army on Monday successfully test-fired medium range surface-to-surface nuke-capable missile Prithvi-II from its defence base off the Orissa coast. This comes after the triumphant development trial of hypersonic ballistic missile ‘Shourya’ on Saturday. The missile was fired in full operational mode off a Mobile Tatra transporter-erector Launcher (MTL) at around 8.55 am from Launching Complex-III of the Integrated Test Range.Sources said Strategic Forces Command (SFC), a special wing of the Army, carried out the test as part of its user training exercise while DRDO provided all logistical support for the mission.ITR Director Shaktipada Dash said radars and electro optical systems tracked the parameters of the missile throughout the flight path and added that it was a textbook launch which achieved zero circular error probability (CEP) accuracy. An Indian naval ship located near the target witnessed the final event.Defence sources said the missile used for the test was picked randomly from the assembly line after production to gauge its effectiveness and performance in a real time situation. The mission was named as limited stock production test.P-II, one of the five missiles built under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, has been successfully flight tested a number of times as part of the training exercise. Monday’s test again proved the reliable flight testing of the missile. Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister VK Saraswat congratulated all the scientists and the Armed Forces personnel on the success of the test.
