BHUBANESWAR: Two days after the chlorine gas leakage left a dozen persons injured in the City, the Public Health Engineering Organisation (PHEO) ordered an inquiry into the incident. A superintending engineer-ranked officer has been asked to investigate and submit a report, Chief Engineer Dilip Singh said. The PHEO, however, described the incident as an accident. “Routine checks are conducted on all our storage tanks across the State by the security officers. The last check was held on November 8,” the Chief Engineer said. Accidents can not be ruled out and in this case, he said, the washer came off while the gas cylinder was being switched off. Singh did not rule out negligence and said, action will be taken if anyone is found guilty of dereliction in the inquiry report. Over 12 people, including a staffer of the PHEO, were injured after inhaling the gas. Three of them were put under observation. However, their condition is normal now.
