HYDERABAD: Greenery takes a step back in the midst of busy lifestyle and conjested city spaces. Bonsai is a real boon to promote greenery by occupying less space and demanding less time for management. Friends Bonsai Society in Secunderabad is organising the 27th Bonsai exhibition on September 17 and 18 at Zoroastrian club in the city. The event will have more than 100 different bonsai of tropical trees, shrubs, flowering and furit-bearing varieties, innovative styles such as driftwood style, carved style, water penjing, saikeis and rock grown bonsai style. “The purpose of the exhibition is to promote and inculcate the idea of greenery in the city to curb pollution and create a pleasant environment through bonsai, which is free of maintenance,” says Govindraj, secretary, Friends Bonsai Society. The two-day exhibition is open for the public to visit, workshops and meetings are organised by the society for the public and the which will include discussions, demonstration and solving problems pertaining to bonsai. “It is not enough just to plant a tree in a pot and allow nature to take its course. Every branch and twig of a bonsai is shaped or eliminated until the chosen image is achieved,” says a bonsai guide at the society. The Friends Bonsai Society has been in the art of bonsai since 1983 to mould nature in an interesting miniature form. Some of the specimens in the exhibition are Mango, Sapota, Guava, Tamarind, Bougenvilla, China box, Banyan and Pupil.Overall, bonsai is  considered as a great interest, hobby or even profession to undertake by many of the bonsai lovers.
