CHENNAI: Continuing protests at Idinthakarai in Tirunelveli district has forced the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited to further delay the commissioning of the two units of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project.  On November 10, Kasinath Balaji, Director of KKNPP had said that the new deadline for commissioning unit I would be March 2012 and unit II would be December 2012.  Now, as per the fresh schedule, the expected time of commercial operation would be May 2012 and February 2013 for Units I and II respectively.According to the NPCIL website, “The physical progress of unit I is 99.2 per cent as on October this year, while unit II has made 94.6 per cent progress.”The third round of talks between the Central experts and the representatives of the protestors failed on December 15. The protestors have also said that the next round of talks with the Central experts would be possible only if the government provided 14 documents sought by them.
