CHENNAI: A three-member team from Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology, Sivaganga, won the maiden award for creating village-based web portal ‘namma ooru.’ A team comprising D Karthick, R Meenakshi and P K Madhumathi from the college won a cash award of `75,000 and medallion for creating a website for Pudhuvayal village.The ‘namma ooru’ website creation contest was initiated by the IIT-Madras’s Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI) and National Internet Exchange of India. As part of the first phase of the project, the team planned to create 50 village web portals for 50 different villages in the chosen pilot location, Sivaganga district.Students’ team from the same college ---S Varun, S R Ajayshankar and S Natchiappan-won the second prize for creating the best webpage for Kanadukathan, while a trio from Pannai College of Engineering and Technology - M Ranjani Devi, V Bhuvaneshwari and A Vijayalakshmi- won the third prize for their web portal on Iyyampalayam village.
