Chandigarh: Disgruntled farmer organisations decided to end the supposed the 10-day long agitation on June 6 in Punjab. The farmers' stir in the rest of the states will end on June 10, as planned.
Four farmer organisations from Punjab on Monday jointly declared to end the agitation four days in advance. The decision was announced at Monday's press conference held in Ludhiana.
The next step will be announced after a meeting of 172 farmer organisations, which head the agitation.
State president of Bharti Kisan Union Balbir Singh Rajewal alleged that the government was trying to make farmers fight among themselves because of which it has been decided to call off the agitation early on June 6.
Tributes were also paid to the 6 farmers killed in police firing in Madhya Pradesh.
Farmer organisations had decided to stop the supply of milk and vegetables to cities from June 1 to 19.
In Punjab, Bharti Kisan Union (Sidhupur), Bharti Kisan Union (Rajewal) and Lakhowal and several other organisations have decided to implement the decision.
Punjab saw farmers spilling milk and throwing vegetables on the roads during the course of the bandh. Several clashes were also reported between general public and farmers in several parts of the state.
