Rain pounds Shimoga district

Heavy rains in Hosanagara and Tirthahalli paralysed life in the two taluks. Deputy Commissioner M V Vedamurthy directed the taluk authorities to take all precautionary measures.

Following incessant downpour on Sunday morning, no report of property damage or loss of life has been reported, barring a few minor incidents.

A bridge near Ilakunji village of Hosanagar taluk collapsed throwing traffic out of gear on Tirthahalli-Nagara Road.

Two to three acres of horticulture crop was washed away by water from a nearby tank in Basavanadana village, said Hosanagara tahsildar T Krishnamurthy.

Meanwhile, rain lashed parts of Kodagu district even as Harangi reservoir is becoming full to the brim.

Landslide at Charmadi

A landslide at Charmadi Ghat resulted in blocking of traffic in Mnagalore on Sunday. Locals said the landslide occurred in the second and third curves of the Ghat section during the evening. An eyewitness said that the road is heaped with mud and stones of approximately 15 metres height. Traffic on the highway between Mudigere and Ujire was halted.
