HYDERABAD: Heavy rains that lashed the twin cities on Tuesday inundated many residential colonies located in low-lying areas in the city.Traffic was also brought to a standstill for more than three hours on the Madhapur- JNTU, Kukatpally stretch as the water overflowed on the street.As many as nine trees were uprooted in different places and three cars (Innova, Skoda and Swift) were completely damaged as an old tree fell on them where they were parked in Kundanbagh. Nine trees were uprooted in Gandhinagar, Chaderghat, Kacheguda, Vidyanagar, Kundanbagh, Musheerabad, Amberpet and Abids.“We received information from a few places about fallen trees blocking the roads and complaints of inundation from various localities.Our staff is out on the roads to check and clear roads,” said Narasaraju, assistant engineer from the emergency cell of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).Complaints of water-logging were received from Punjagutta, MJ Market junction and localities in Indirapark.Areas such as Maithrivanam, Begumpet, Vanasthalipuram, Madhuranagar and Yousufguda saw streets full of swirling waters and sewerage. Vehicles had to wade through knee-deep waters in Lakdi-ka-pul, LB Nagar, Dilshuknagar, Uppal and low-lying areas near Kukatpalli.Narsaraju said that a wall of a small house collapsed due to heavy rains in Langer Houz. “No causality was reported.Our people swung into action as soon as they got information and shifted the family members to a nearby community hall.GHMC workers also removed tree blockades from areas such as Kundanbagh, Vidyanagar and Chaderghat,” he added.
