Rains dampen spirits in Kolkata
Rains dampen spirits in Kolkata
Just a week before the Durga puja, rains seem to be dampening the festivities in Kolkata.

Kolkata: It's that time of the year when everything takes backseat in Kolkata -- the Durga puja is just five days away.

As Kolkata witnesses waterlogged streets and traffic jams, the city's festive spirit seems to be getting drained by the rain.

People across the city can be seen wading through the water and the pandals for the puja are still incomplete.

The paint on the Durga idols is yet to dry up and needless to say, Kolkatans are down if not out.

"I am depressed," says a resident of Kolkata, Soumya Mukherjee. Other like Basab Chatterjee resent that the rains will wash away the fun from the puja. "We are only hoping that this does not continue for long," he adds.

A week before the Durga puja, it's 'shop till you drop' for the Kolkatans. But with heavy downpour in the city, most of the last minute shopping too has been put on hold. And this, spells huge losses for the traders.

The MeT office forecasts more rains in the next 48 hours, which means that last minute Durga puja preparations will be washed away.

But Kolkatans are still keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that maa Durga will bring some sunshine with her.

What's your reaction?
