While the entire world celebrates February 14 as the day of love and romance, 5 years ago, a scathing attack on our CRPF brave hearts changed the way we Indians perceive the day forever. On February 14, 2019, at Lethapora in the Pulwama region of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, a vehicle-borne suicide bomber assaulted a convoy of vehicles carrying Indian security officers on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway. Forty members of the Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred in the attack.
A man from Bhilwara, identified as Narayan, in Rajasthan, decided to pay respect to the martyrs of the attack. He has immortalised the names of the 40 martyrs by tattooing each of their names on his body. Along with this, he has the tricolour and martyr’s memorial tattooed on his back and a picture of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his chest.
Talking to News18, Narayana said that he could not sleep all night on February 14, 2019, after hearing about the attack and said that he felt like visiting the funeral of every soldier who was martyred in the attack.
“Everyone celebrates the day of love on February 14 but these lovers of the country did not care for their lives and gave them up. As long as I am alive, the names of all these patriots and 40 soldiers will remain alive on my body and I will always remember them as to how they have sacrificed their lives for their country”, Narayan said. He asked people not to idolise film heroes and instead to idolise our soldiers whom he calls the real heroes of the country. Narayan has also written a line along with the names of the martyred soldiers of Pulwama, which states “one thought can change belief”.
