BANGALORE: The residents of JP Garden Ward have several issues lined up, which they want the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities to take note off. Of these, most important is the measures to ensure clean open drains. These drains have become a breeding place for mosquitoes.Areas such as Poornappa Garden, Sundar Nagar, Gokul Extension, Badappa Garden, Muthyalamma Nagar, Tannirahalli, Matthikere Lake, SBM Colony, Brindavan Nagar, Mohan Kumar Nagar, HMT Layout are the important areas of JP Garden Ward. The BBMP had sanctioned ` 6 crore last year to take up various development works in the ward. “The funds were utilised to construct a bus stand at Muthyalamma Nagar and a school building at HMT Ground. Many drains were strengthened as part of development works last year,’’ says B R Nanjundappa, Corporator of JP Garden Ward. However, the residents opine that the BBMP has to do more to ensure proper infrastructure at various areas of the ward. For example, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had dug up 10th Main Road of Venkatamma Ramaiah Layout to lay under ground drainage pipes more than one year ago but the BBMP authorities are yet to take measures to asphalt the road. “We are fed up with BBMP authorities’ negligence. They are not keen on solving our problems and the road that was dug up one year ago is yet to be asphalted,’’ says Oscar Das, a resident. The open drain at the Layout is another nuisance for the residents. The residents want the BBMP authorities to cover the drain with concrete slabs. “We are not able to cope with the bad odour that emanates from the open drain. We have been requesting the BBMP authorities to redress our grievances but in vain,’’ says a housewife on condition of nonymity. There are many vacant sites at various localities in the Ward. These sites are full of parthenium weeds. There is nothing to revel about the cleanliness of open drains at Bandappa Garden. “The Corporator has been doing his best for the development of this ward but we are not happy with the drains. They are either filled with garbage or full of weeds. We hope that the corporator will do something to remove the garbage and weeds from the open drains,’’ says D Asha, a housewife. Meanwhile, Corporator Nanjundappa maintains that he wants to focus on cleaning drains and ensure sufficient water supply at all areas in the Ward. “The `4.50 crore musical fountain at the JP Park is set to be inaugurated shortly. I want to develop and beautify the road between Mathikere Bus Stand to JP Garden since the number of visitors from other parts of Bangalore are expected to visit the musical fountain,’’ says Nanjundappa. He also adds that the BBMP had allocated ` 2 crore for development works this year.
