CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday handed over two Road Measurement Data Acquisition System (ROMDAS)- fitted vehicles worth `3 crore to State Highways Department.The equipment will measure the length and breadth of the road, carry out roughness survey, rut-survey, and a GPS survey through three video cameras, according to a release. ROMDAS will be mounted on a car and record all the data as it travels. Based on the data obtained through ROMDAS, the damaged roads can be mended on priority through proper estimates. The equipment can be used to survey around 20,000 km.Vandalur ROB OpenedJayalalithaa also inaugurated a Road Over Bridge, which was constructed at cost of `27 crore, including Rs 5 crore spent by the Railways, on the Vandalur-Walajabad Road near the Vandalur Railway Station, through video-conferencing.Other bridges inaugurated include one each at Tindivinam Govindasamy Arts College Road, and Tiruvarur Thittai Tarasuram Road above Sullan river, one across the Thenpennai in Thirupathur - Vaniyampadi, one across Seyyaru river near Kaazhiyur in Thiruvannamalai, one across the Vaigai near Chekkapatti, Kannapatti in Dindigul, one across the Amaravathi near Aattukaalpudur, Tirupur, one near Thirumoorthy dam, one across the Appiliyapatti, one near Senthevi Palayam, one across Kuniyamuthur channel, one across a stream on Anjetti-Natrampalayam road, one near Veerapandi across the excess water channel from the PWD dam in Madurai, one across the Veeramuthiravari in Perambalur, and another across the Kataru in Kolathur. The 15 bridges were built at a cost of Rs 46.78 crore.
