HYDERABAD: Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao had a bitter experience when he visited Ekasila Park in Warangal Wednesday to pay tributes to Telangana ideologue Prof K Jayashankar. As soon as he arrived, students, who were with Jayashankar’s mortal remains, rushed to him in an attempt to prevent him from going near the body. The police who were anticipating trouble in the wake of a similar treatment meted out to Warangal MP Sircilla Rajaiah and IT minister P Lakshmaiah, were present in full force. With great effort, they took Shankar Rao near the body but the students booed him and threw mud at him. Some students, in the meantime, attacked his car, venting their anger on him since he belongs to the Congress which is dragging its feet on making a categorical announcement on the Telangana issues. Shankar Rao like all other leaders of the Congress is continuing in a position of power, despite demands from the Telangana votaries that they resign to put pressure on the Centre.Even while eixting from Ekasila Park, the minister had to face the wrath of the students who abused him for not resigning. Later, Shankar Rao described the day as bad and said those who tried to attack him were integrationists.
