Mumbai: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta will be observed as the witness-in-chief in a defamation case that she had filed against a Mumbai-based tabloid in 2005.
Preity’s was expected to appear in an additional metropolitan magistrate's court in Girgaum in south Mumbai on Tuesday, but the case was adjourned to January 23, her lawyer Sandeep Kapur was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The actress had filed the case against the tabloid for publishing an article regarding a telephonic conversation purportedly between actors Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai where her name was mentioned in an objectionable manner.
The tapes of the alleged telephonic conversation were later examined in 2005 by the forensic laboratory in Chandigarh, which said the voices were not that of Salman and Aishwarya.
It is alleged that Salman had threatened Aishwarya into performing for an entertainment programme of gangster Abu Salem and threatening her with his underworld connections in the conversation.
