CHENNAI: The Election Commission on Wednesday directed all political functionaries and party workers, who have been brought from outside the Sankarankoil constituency and who are not voters of the constituency, to leave the constituency immediately after 5 pm on March 16. “Kalyanamandapams, community halls, lodges and guest houses would be checked to find out whether any outsiders are accommodated in these premises and to ensure they are not staying in the constituency,” Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said in an official release.The CEO further said checkposts would be set up along the constituency borders to track vehicular movement from outside. Permits to candidates would cease to be valid from 5 pm on March 16.On poll day, each candidate is entitled to get a separate permit each, for one vehicle for his or her use, one for election agent, and one for party workers. On poll day and only the above three vehicles with valid permits would be allowed in the constituency. Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said the Presiding Officers should give an attested copy of the account of votes recorded (on Form 17C) at the end of the poll to all such polling agents present, irrespecive of their asking for it or not.
