Government Law College, Ernakulam, represented by Jose Kuriakose and Ahammad Fayaz, won the Overall Champions’ crown at Sargapadham 2012, the two-day literary festival organised by Sacred Hearts College, Thevara, which concluded on Friday.
Around 17 colleges from across the state participated in the event which included a symposium on ‘Environmental Concerns and Developmental Dreams’, led by Sri Benoy Viswam and C P John. The highlight of the event was the literary pentathlon comprising intercollegiate competitions in quiz, extempore, group discussion, essay writing and mock press.
In the essay competition, Ahammed Fayaz of Government Law College, Ernakulam secured the first prize while Athira S Kumar, SH College, Thevara, and Jyotsana George of Government Law College were placed second and third respectively. Joseph Jose M and Varun Menon of St Albert’s College won the quiz contest. The team from MA College, comprising Nizamuddin Akbar and Harikrishnan N K, won the second prize while Jose Kuriakose and Ahammad Fayaz of Government Law college secured third place.
St Albert’s was among the honours again in the extempore competition, with Nitin Jose claiming winning the first prize. The highlight of the day was the Mock Press competition, wherein the participants posed as famous personalities from the fields of art, politics and literature. Jose Kuriakose from Government Law College won the first prize in the event. Chrisbastin Tom of BPC College, Piravom and Neenu Rajeev of UC College, Aluva emerged second and third respectively.
The festival came to a close with the prize distribution ceremony and valedictory function presided over by Rev Fr Austin Mularickal, former manager, Sacred Heart College.
