Ambur police late on Friday night arrested the school bus driver, Sankar (57) of Konamedu village, in connection with the run over of three-year-old LKG student, Sujitha, at Echampattu.

Sujitha, an LKG student in Embesow Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Marapattu, was run over by the school bus soon after she got off at 4.30 pm on Friday.

On seeing a group of villagers chasing the bus, he abandoned the vehicle and fled.

The police arrested him during the late hours of Friday and booked him on charges of rash and negligent driving and causing death.

He was remanded to the Vellore Central Prison for Men, said the police. They also found that Sankar’s driving license was invalid.

“Sankar obtained the driving license in Karnataka and he failed to get endorsement from the RTO here.

“Moreover, it was also found out that the license of the driver was valid only till April this year,” said Ambur DSP E Vijay Kumar.
