BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Monday filed an FIR against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, his two sons and son-in-law by registering a criminal case against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Jeevan Kumar V Gaonkar, Lokayukta ADGP told Express that he asked Bangalore City Division SP, to register a case against Yeddyurappa, his sons B Y Raghavendra (MP), B Y Vijayendra and son-in-law Sohan Kumar and others.The former chief minister, thus, has two FIRs against him as the Lokayukta police had previously registered a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act based on the Lokayukta Court’s direction on his alleged involvement in the illegal tender process of the Upper Bhadra Project.Gaonkar said cases have been registered against Yeddyurappa and his kin based on two allegations. Yeddyurappa, his sons and son-in-law were charged with making Rs 30 crore from firms involved in illegal mining.He said the case was registered against Yeddyurappa based on the Lokayukta’s report to the Governor and the communique from the latter.Based on the Governor’s recommendation, Lokayukta Justice Shivaraj V Patil on Friday had ordered the Lokayukta police to take suitable legal action against Yeddyurappa.“The case has been registered under Section 7,8,9, 13 (1)(d) read with Section 13 (2) of the Prevention Of Corruption Act,” said ADGP Gaonkar. He said that the police would investigate the case and file the chargesheet before the Lokayukta court.Official sources said that the Sections mentioned in the FIR are bailable offences and the chances of arresting BSY is less. But, it is the prerogative of the court whether to arrest Yeddyurappa or give bail in this case, an officer opined.
