At a time when Telangana leaders are highly charged up over the separate state issue, Congress legislators from Seemandhra are all set to hold a meeting at Ministers’ Quarters here on Saturday to chalk out a fresh action plan to deter the Congress high command from entertaining any thought of bifurcating the state.
The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of primary education minister and convener of the AP Congress Legislators Forum S Sailajanath. Congress leaders like J C Diwakar Reddy, Gade Venkata Reddy and Anam Vivekananda Reddy will attend.
Following warnings from Telangana outfits not to hold any anti-bifuraction meetings in Hyderabad, the Seemandhra MLAs changed their venue from Nizam Club to Ministers’ Quarters.
According to Gade Venkata Reddy, the meeting will discuss the ongoing developments at the Centre and pass a resolution urging the high command not to divide the state.
Against the backdrop of a series of letters being written by ministers, MLCs and MLAs of Telangana, Seemandhra legislators are also planning to write one of their own to the high command requesting that Andhra Pradesh be kept intact.
The Seemandhra legislators are also contemplating a visit to Delhi to lobby high command functionaries.
Meanwhile, Telangana Congress leaders are disapproving this plan of their Seemandhra counterparts. Several Telangana legislators and MPs see this meeting in the heart of Hyderabad as a provocation.
“Seemandhra leaders seem to be deriving sadistic pleasure by holding such meetings in Hyderabad, which is part and parcel of Telangana. If those leaders have any human values, they should extend their support to the Congress high command to accord statehood to Telangana as 90 per cent of people of the region desire a separate state,” MP Ponnam Prabhakar told Express.
