Selected for Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Asthana Vidwan Title

Two city musicians have been selected for the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Asthana Vidwan title of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. They are,

Kavalam Sajeev, a resident of Elankam Nagar here and the director of the Kavalam School of Music, and V Soundararajan, a faculty member of the Swathi Tirunal Music College.

Soundararajan, a native of Narikkunnu panchayat in Kozhikode, is an expert on ‘veena’, while Kavalam Sajeev is an active member of the Sopana music group of Kavalam Narayana Panicker.

Having learnt music right from the age of seven, Sajeev has worked with Protima Bedi’s Nrithagramam and also the Samudra International Group.

Soundararajan started learning music at the age of ten and has experimented with fusion music and has associated with many films as well.

Both Kavalam Sajeev and V Soundararajan are also ‘B High’ artistes of Akashavani. The artistes will be presented the award on October 15 on the occasion of the 119th jayanthi celebrations of Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Maha Swamigal and the 78th jayanthi celebrations of Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. The venue of the function will be the Kamakshi Amman Temple at Kanchipuram.
