Paris: Top-seeded Serena Williams reached the second round of the French Open by beating Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland 7-6 (2), 6-2 on Monday.
Williams, who won the title at Roland Garros in 2002 after defeating her sister Venus in the final, had 10 aces and three service winners late in the tiebreaker.
The 12-time Grand Slam champion also saved three break points late in the first set.
