Army orders probe after personnel is overpowered and admitted to hospital in critical condition.

Jammu: A soldier went berserk killing three of his colleagues and injuring three including himself in Rajouri district on Saturday morning.

A soldier of the signal regiment posted at Narian opened fire from his service rifle, said military spokesman Lt Col R K Chibber.

He tried to shoot himself as well but was overpowered and is in a critically wounded condition.

All the injured have been admitted at an Army hospital.

"The exact reason for the act is not immediately known and a court of inquiry has been ordered," said Chibber.

Incidents of this nature frequently occur in the state because of the intense stress the armed forces undergo due to militancy and their claustrophobic living conditions. Denial of leave has been a major factor leading to such acts.
