BELGAUM: Karnataka Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah’s Secretary P Omprakash has asked IGP of Northern Range P S Sandu to furnish the official and personal cellphone numbers of all police officials, including SP Sandeep Patil, who handled the communal riots at Vishnu Galli in Shahapur on May 31Omprakash, as per the directions Speaker Bopaiah, wrote to IGP Sandu August 23 in this regard.He sought the cellphone numbers of Additional SP S H Gangareddy, Dy SPs G M Desur and K M Shantaraju, Circle Police Inspectors Basavaraj Yaligar, S M Muchandi, Vishwanath Kulkarni, Shankargouda Patil and M Shivashankar, Police Sub-Inspectors Rajiv, G M Kalimirchi, S M Patil and B R Nayak.In addition, the cellphone numbers of 12 police constables, who were at the spot on May 31, have also been sought by the Speaker.It seems that top officials here are confused over getting such a letter from the Speaker and the next course of action from him.Sources told Express that the government will check the call register and SMS records of the police officials from the date of the riots till date.It may recalled that Vishnu Galli riots had led to a spate of allegations between the top police officials and local politicians, particularly the local MLA.Meanwhile, sources in the department told Express that it is normal practice to verify the call records of police officials and politicians of riot-hit places.
