HYDERABAD: A youth, who had been spurned by a girl, attempted suicide by setting ablaze in front of the girl’s house at Padmanabanagar near Secunderabad on Tuesday. The incident follows a suicide attempt by another spurned lover, who consumed poison on Monday. Chilkalguda inspector B Anjaiah said 26-year old Jagadish, a resident of Musheerabad had fallen in love with a girl and was forcing her to get married to him. Around 9 a.m on Tuesday, Jagadish went to Padmanabhanagar, where the girl lives to talk with her parents. “With the girls’ parents refusing to talk to him, Jagadish came out of the house and attempted suicide by pouring kerosene and setting himself ablaze,” the inspector said. Jagadish suffered more than 70 per cent burn injuries and was shifted to the Burns Ward of Gandhi General Hospital for treatment. Doctors treating Jagadish said his condition was critical.Police said Jagadish, a degree course dropout came in contact with the girl 13 years ago, when both families were stayed in Ashoknagar in a single compound. Ever since then, Jagadish has been asking the girl to marry him. Due to his harassment, the girl’s family shifted to Padmanabhanagar and the girl completed her MBA education in the city. Anjaiah said as Jagadish was working as a caterer, the girl’s parents refused to give consent for their marriage and had earlier warned him not to force her daughter. Chilkalguda police have registered a case under Section 309 (attempted suicide) and investigation is on. Meanwhile, E Murali, a resident of SR Nagar, who consumed poison after attacking a girl and her brother, died late on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the Gandhi hospital. Murali had attacked them after he was refused from talking to the girl by her brother Satish Chandra.
