Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said that a delegation from the state would visit New Delhi next week to persuade the Centre for more funds to tackle drought.
Shettar told reporters at Almatti near here on Sunday that detailed reports about long and short term plans, as asked by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, had been prepared.
The Chief Minister said that there was a need for certain changes in the guidelines of Central Relief Fund provided to the states.
“Now only a hobli is considered as a unit for providing such funds. There is a need to consider villages as a unit for such relief funds,” he said.
About Bijapur leaders’ Upper Krishna Project-III (UKP-III) projects demands, he said that he has invited a delegation from the district to Bangalore next month and has already spoken to Yarnal Swamiji about the matter.
Chief Minister said that state would try to convince the Central government about need to come to the rescue of farmers who had availed loans from nationalised banks. He added that such loans amounted to about Rs 19,000 crore as about 18 lakh farmers had availed the loans.
“State announced a loan waiver of farm loans obtained from cooperative institutions. Farmers would be benefited if loans were made available at the rate of three per cent through nationalised banks,” he said.
When asked about delay in its official declaration, he said that this would be done in a couple of days.
Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that works on rehabilitation of people displaced in Upper Krishna Project projects could be expedited if the draft before the Parliament was approved.
He said that survey works were being carried out through modern techniques and was not time consuming now.
