CHENNAI: Stolen property worth around Rs 3 crore, was recovered by the Greater Chennai police over the last two months. As many as 170 offenders, including chain snatchers, were also arrested, Commissioner of Police J K Tripathy announced on Friday. The CoP was speaking after releasing the arrest and recovery figures at a press meet here.Out of the 236 cases solved by the city police in the last two months, 120 were chain snatching cases, the CoP said, adding that 71 persons, including eight history-sheeters, were arrested in this connection. Stating that steps were taken to expedite the investigation into pending chain-snatching cases, Tripathy hoped that visible policing and installation of closed circuit television cameras in commercial hubs would help check the menace. “The installation of 42 CCTVs in Ritchie Street is also aimed at checking such incidents,” he said.Special teams were formed and an extensive drive was conducted for detection of other crimes such as house break-ins, robbery and cheating. The CoP said that 21 persons, including notorious criminals Ennore Arun Kumar, Wallajah Suresh, Arakonam Ramesh, Madurai Vicky alias Vignesh, Kamudhi Maya alias Maayan, Adambakkam Anand alias Vivekanandan, Ramapuram Kalaiarasan and Kandansavadi Govindaraj, were arrested in connection with 26 cases of robbery. Similarly, 32 arrests were made in connection with burglary cases.In one case, Thilagar alias Dinakaran and Parameswari, were arrested for theft of 48 sovereigns worth Rs 25 lakh from the house of Mylapore Ganesan in the city. The stolen loot was also recovered.Citing another case of robbery at the house of Manoj in Thousand Lights, the CoP said that police teams were sent to Hyderabad and Bihar to crack the case. Three persons, Santhosh, Manoj and Mahesh, were arrested in this connection and a pair of diamond studs worth Rs 50 lakh was recovered from them, Tripathy added. The CoP said that 605 persons were booked under the Goondas Act so far this year.
