Swine flu claims youngest victim, Pune infant dies

Pune: A nine-month-old infant became India’s 19th swine flu victim when he died at a private hospital in Pune late on Wednesday night.

Swabhiman Kamble died at city’s Sahyadri Munot Hospital after suffering from upper respiratory track disorder.

An official at the state swine flu control room said the infant had been hospitalised early this week with flu-like symptoms.

In between, he had also been taken for a check up to Sassoon Hospital, which has been handling very serious cases of influenza A (H1N1) infection.

Maharashtra has had the maximum number of deaths due to swine flu - 11 in Pune, in Mumbai and one in Nashik.

Early on Thursday morning, 75-year-old Bharati Goel, a resident of Yerawada had to shifted from KEM to Sasoon at 1400 hrs IST.

Her other complications included ARDS, Diabetes, heart problems.

One death each has been reported from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.

SWINE FLU VICTIMS

• Reeda Shaikh, 14, died in Pune's Sassoon Hospital, Maharashtra, Aug 3. She was the first swine flu death in the country. Shaikh died of wrong diagnosis and delay in treatment.
• Fahmida Panwala, 53, died in Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital, Maharashtra, Aug 8. She was undergoing treatment for diabetes and hypertension.
• Sanjay Kokare, 42, died in Pune's Sassoon Hospital, Maharashtra, Aug 8. A teacher by profession, he died due to late treatment and respiratory problems.
• Pravin Patel, an NRI, died in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Aug 9. He had viral pneumonia and his haemoglobin count was low.
• Baburao Mane, 35, died in Pune's Sassoon Hospital, Maharashtra. He had pneumonia in both lungs. The ayurvedic doctor was the third victim of swine flu in Pune and died Aug 10. He also had Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and his blood pressure was low.
• Sanjay Balakrishnan, 4, who died in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Aug 10, was diagnosed with kidney failure and chest congestion. He suffered from multiple organ failure.
• Sanjay Tilekar, a pharmacist, succumbed to the viral infection at the Sassoon Hospital in Pune, Maharashtra, Aug 10.
• Shruti Gavde, 13, died in Pune's Sassoon Hospital, Maharashtra, Aug 11.
• Shahida Warsi, 63, died at Mumbai's Noor Hospital, Maharashtra, Aug 11.
• Arya, 7, died in a government hospital in Vadodara, Gujarat, Aug 11.
• Wilson Lukose died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Aug 11.
• Rakesh Gargunde, a medico in Nashik Civil Hospital, Maharashtra, died Aug 12.
• Shravani Deshpande, 29, died of the disease in Pune, Maharashtra, Aug 12. She had pneumonia.
• Sanjay Mistry, 35, died in Sassoon Hospital in Pune, Maharashtra, Aug 12.
• Babu Genu Kuland, a schoolboy, died in the Sassoon Hospital in Pune, Maharashtra, Aug 12.
• Nita Meghani, 50, died in Sassoon Hospital in Pune, Maharashtra, Aug 12.
• Gautam Shelar, died of swine flu on Wednesday afternoon at Pune's Sassoon Hospital.
