THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An international seminar, awareness programmes and welfare schemes form part of a three-year action plan of the Laity Commission of the Syro-Malabar Church for fighting cancer.Christened ‘Fight Against Cancer’ the initiative will see participation by various dioceses, parishes, laity, youth and women’s organisations and Kudumbashree units. ‘Healthy Child-Wealthy Nation,’ a free education scheme for young cancer patients, will be inaugurated on December 27.Camps and seminars will be held in schools and colleges under this scheme. In May 2012, ‘Oncology 2012,’ a seminar which will be attended by cancer experts will be held here. Services planned under the three-year action plan include awareness programmes, early diagnosis, nutrition and palliative care.The Laity Commission hopes to kick of awareness programmes in January.People and NGOs interested in cooperating with this endeavour should write to the Laity Commission on [email protected], Commission secretary V C Sebastian said.
