HYDERABAD: The Talkie Town theatre in Miyapur, which has been accused of lake encroachment in the past, found itself in more trouble on Friday and Saturday, as activists of the NGOs, Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) and Janamkosam, agitated against them for again dumping waste in the Patel Cheruvu lake. “The theatre owners have been dumping white marble debris and construction remnants in the lake behind their property for the past one week.We had complained against it and on Friday, the local tehsildar assigned a team to remove the debris. But the theatre owner threatened the JCB driver and stopped the work midway,” said Rajen Thakur of Janamkosam. The issue started in 2006 when the theatre was built on land encroached from the lake.At the time, activists and residents moved the High Court, but since the construction of the theatre was over, the court took a middle ground and ordered no further construction. But the theatre owners are now defying the court orders and encroaching further into the lake for some commercial gain, a local resident Bhaskara Reddy alleged.YPR Krishna of SOUL said that the owners were building a generator room. The owners of Talkie Town could not be reached over phone despite several attempts.
