Police suspect that the account password was leaked with the assistance of some bank staff..

KOCHI: The arrest of two prime suspects in the phishing case wherein a  doctor of Lakeshore Hospital was duped of Rs 13.4 lakh has caused the police  to raise concern over the temporary staff in the private bank who are  recruited without proper verification.Police suspect that the password of the doctor’s account was leaked with the assistance of some personnel in the bank and the mobile service provider.According to K Padmakumar, Ernakulam Range IG, the arrested had admitted   that there are several sources in banks and mobile companies who are willing to leak confidential details to fraudsters.“The new-generation banks are recruiting a large number of people without  checking their background. Once we get the permission, we will interrogate  the officials of the bank and the mobile company,” the IG said.“We strongly believe that someone working in the bank connived with the    fraudsters. It is not necessary that he should be working in Kochi. Since all the banks are interconnected, the account details can be retrieved by any employee placed in any branch of the same bank. Similarly, some agent in the mobile company could have assisted the culprits in getting the duplicate SIM using a fake passport.Similar cases reported from other states have revealed that such frauds happen with the assistance of the  temporary staff,” he said.Meanwhile, the mobile service provider company and the bank authorities have extended full support to the investigation.“Vodafone is in complete compliance with all government rules and regulations. We have been extending full cooperation and will continue to do so in this regard,” said the official spokesperson of Vodafone.
