Police say that the terrorists have entered Delhi in a white ambassador car.

New Delhi: Six suspected militants of the Bangladeshi terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) have managed to enter the national capital, police said on Wednesday and requested people for help in nabbing them.

"Intelligence Bureau inputs say that six militants have entered Delhi in a white Ambassador car bearing registration number DL 33 1978 from Uttar Pradesh's Deoband town late Tuesday. They could be somewhere in east Delhi," said Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat.

"We have fanned out teams for their arrest and appeal to people in identifying the car and dial emergency number 100 if they come across any suspected person or article," he said, adding that a high alert has been sounded in the capital.

Police have launched a massive search in east Delhi.

A senior police official told IANS, "We strongly believe that they could be HuJI militants as they have come from Deoband, which is a HuJI stronghold. They may be planning to execute terror activities ahead of the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition Thursday."

The Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6, 1992.

Police sources also indicated a link between these terrorists and the serial terror blasts that ripped three cities — Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad — of Uttar Pradesh and killed 13 people last month.

Intelligence agencies then had strongly suspected HuJI to be behind the attacks.

The latest information about militants comes barely two days after intelligence officials alerted Delhi Police about a possible terror strike in the capital within a fortnight.

The intelligence inputs suggested that militants of the Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in connivance with HuJI were hatching a conspiracy to target Delhi.

Police were leaving no stone unturned to avoid any terror strike.

Delhi policemen have been instructed to keep a strict vigil at the interstate borders and areas adjoining the capital, particularly along Uttar Pradesh.

"We have taken unprecedented security measures and are fully prepared. Bomb disposal squads and dog squads have been put on high alert," Bhagat said.

Additional police personnel have been deployed at Delhi Metro stations, railway stations, bus terminals, cinema halls and popular markets.
