New Delhi: Network18 and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) jointly organised an Indo-US dialogue to mark the visit of the US President Barack Obama to India. The panelists, which included some of the top policy makers from both India and America, expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is capable of taking the relationship to a newer and greater level.
The inaugural session of the seminar on Indo-US relationship was attended by strategic affairs expert C Rajamohan, former Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood, former US Assistant Secretary of Defence Vikram Singh, Peter Tichansky of BCIU and Rick Rossow.
Union Environment and Forest minister Prakash Javadekar, Union Telecom and Information Techonology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Chairman Mahindra Group Anand Mahindra and Former ambassador and nuclear negotiator Rakesh Sood were some of the main speakers at the two-day event.
Union Railways minister Suresh Prabhu, who delivered the valedictory address "The Way Forward - The Next Steps" said "India and the US share many things, we have the same values. The US is world's largest economy; India could be 3rd largest economy soon".
Other discussions were also held on Defence and Technology Cooperation, moderated by Ajai Shukla, Defence Expert. A panel discussion also took palce on Energy Security and Sustainable Development which was moderated by Vice President ORF Samir Saran. A panel discussion on Regional Security Challenges was moderated by senior journalist and AII-ORF Chair for Indo-Pacific Ashok Malik.
