The incident took place in the forest of Nelnar in Abujhmad area on Wednesday evening, Additional Superintendent of Police O P Sharma told PTI over phone.
The joint squad of Special Task Force (STF) and district force were on a combing operation in Nelnar region, around 450 km away from here, when the armed Maoists launched an attack on them, he said.
After a fierce exchange of fire, bodies of three Naxals were found at the spot. Muzzle-loading guns, other weapons and commodities of daily use were recovered.
The identity of the killed ultras was yet to be established, the ASP said.
