NEW DELHI: Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Tuesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought his intervention to find an amicable solution to the Mullaiperiyar issue.The Prime Minister, who gave a patient hearing to both delegations, is learnt to have assured them of the Centre’s intervention in the matter. According to the MPs who met the PM, the Prime Minister’s Office had already given directions to Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal to convene a meeting of the Chief Ministers and officials of both states in Delhi to sort out the issue. The date of the meeting will be announced soon. The DMK delegation, led by T R Baalu, presented a memorandum to the PM. The DMK MPs sought the PM’s intervention to “desist” political parties in Kerala from engaging in “false propaganda” and wait for the final orders of the Supreme Court on the issue.
